Borer Chemie AG is a technological leader in the development, production and worldwide distribution of professional cleaning and disinfection solutions with headquarters in Zuchwil, Switzerland.

In order to improve efficiency and processes, the chemical company decided to implement a new ERP solution. With the successful implementation and go-live of Microsoft Dynamics 365 and the BE-terna industry add-on for the process industry, the company is now able to meet the increasingly complex requirements of the industry.

Advanced Cleaning Solutions

Borer Chemie AG is a globally active manufacturer of products for demanding cleaning in the sectors of industry, medical hygiene, laboratories and pharmaceuticals, as well as hand and surface disinfection. This family-owned, Swiss company with 150 employees at various locations in Switzerland, Germany and Shanghai stands for continuous growth. Currently, there are distribution partners in 60 countries who sell their product range of around 1,300 specialty cleaning products in the four business units of Medical, Live Sciences, Industry and Hygiene. Strict compliance with national and international laws and standards plays a crucial role in the chemical industry and is a prerequisite for Borer Chemie AG's successful and safe business operations at home and abroad.

With the new ERP solution, the company’s finances, which were previously handled in an external system, have been integrated. This means that financial data and key figures from all modules can now be accessed in real time without a system break. The goal was also to create a system with multi-client capability, which can be implemented and used internationally. Overall, the number of existing interfaces and process weaknesses were reduced. An essential, overall project goal was to introduce a modern application for the quick and clear handling of processes, which comprehensively supports the adherence to rapidly changing compliance requirements.

A successful partnership

During several workshops, BE-terna was able to stand out among the competitors in the selection process with its industry solution for the chemical industry based on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain.

With Microsoft Dynamics 365, a high degree of standard coverage of the requirements was achieved. Thanks to the high level of customization, the system can be adapted to a wide range of business processes. The scalability across international locations, the intuitive interface and the mobile usability of the business software via the web client were also convincing. In addition, Microsoft Power Apps made it possible to create user-defined applications without conventional programming effort.

The chemistry between the partners was also right. Mario Herzog, Head of Supply Chain Management and ERP project manager, summarizes:

"BE-terna was chosen as a partner because the overall concept was convincing. The team was able to present reasonable solution proposals and answer many questions on an ad-hoc basis. Everything was a good fit, both interpersonally and technically, and in terms of costs."

Support across all business processes

With the introduction of Dynamics 365, compliance with all legal regulations, such as REACH, ADR and VOC, can now be consistently monitored. Financial accounting is now also integrated. It is also possible to bring multiple workplans per item on different resources into quantity dependency and assign corresponding cost rates. This means that well-founded decisions can now be made about the product range. The system is linked to an audit-compliant document management system and all relevant documents from the goods flow and finances are archived. The use of EDI interfaces now also ensures fluent and standardized communication with transport and logistics partners.

The BE-terna industry solution enables Borer Chemie to manage formulations and to specify and monitor manufacturer specifications. With the integrated ingredient management system, recipes can be easily adapted to the actual quality of the batch and the required fillers. In addition, the integrated dangerous goods and hazardous substances management simplifies the immediate creation of multilingual material safety data sheets and labels. The industry solution supports end-to-end batch management and traceability. All batch movements are recorded in the system and can be traced accordingly. Microsoft Power BI can be used to extract data from various databases and systems and create live dashboards and interactive reports.

Mario Herzog sums up the collaboration:

"The support was excellent, and we always felt we were in safe hands. We worked together under high pressure over a long period of time and were always able to openly discuss everything - whether technical or personal."
